Our 100% Ceramic Implant Solutions
Dental implants are a remarkable way to restore missing or damaged teeth, but some of our patients have concerns about dental implants that contain titanium, for the following reasons:
- Metal is susceptible to corrosion.
- Metal conducts heat and electricity.
- Some patients are sensitive or allergic to metal.
- Hazardous bacteria can accumulate in between the sections of a titanium-secured implant.
- A dark titanium “shadow” can sometimes be seen around the edges of the implant.
A metal-free dental implant is made from Zirconia which is a ceramic material that’s biocompatible and offers a wide range of benefits including, high-quality aesthetics, decreased risk of infection, improved healing, and ultimate strength & stability. Here at Balboa Island Dentistry, we use NobelPearl® dental implants as a great alternative to traditional implants. With NobelPearl® from Nobel Biocare, Dr. Alfano can provide you with the full dental implant experience while avoiding the drawbacks associated with standard, titanium-secured implants.
What Are NobelPearl Dental Implants?
At Balboa Island Dentistry, Dr. Alfano is proud to offer NobelPearl — a metal-free, all-ceramic dental implant. This solution provides patients with a safe and attractive alternative to conventional implants.
NobelPearl implants give you exceptional comfort, stability, and chewing power.
Unlike traditional three-piece implants, NobelPearl consists of two ceramic pieces that fit together snugly, without leaving space for dangerous bacteria to accumulate. The VICARBO screw that connects the pieces is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer that’s designed for a strong ceramic-to-ceramic connection.
The crown is the part of the implant that replaces your tooth. It’s the only portion of the implant that people will see. For a truly stunning restoration, we feature beautiful, tooth-colored zirconia crowns from Katana™. Their unique process creates glass-like translucency using strong, multilayered zirconia.
What is the Dental Implant Process?
All-ceramic NobelPearl implants are placed in the same manner as regular titanium-secured implants. Dr. Alfano will begin by surgically attaching the implant fixture to your jaw. This is the section of the implant that acts like the root of your natural teeth. Your jawbone will develop a strong bond with the fixture through a process called osseointegration.
Once your body has become fully adjusted to the implant fixture, you’ll return to Balboa Island Dentistry so that Dr. Alfano can complete the process by attaching your permanent zirconia restoration.
We use advanced imaging technology to create a digital impression of your smile. Then our local Katana milling center uses this information to create your lifelike ceramic crown. Dr. Alfano will complete the implant process by placing your natural-looking crown, and you’ll leave our office with a stunning new addition to your smile that’s one hundred percent metal-free.
